First Chief Minister of Delhi – Chaudhary P. Brahm Parkash (1952-1955)

Chaudhary Brahm Prakash Yadav was an Indian politician, the first Chief Minister of Delhi, and a freedom fighter who played an important role in the individual Satyagraha Movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi in 1940.Prakash served as Minister in charge of Planning and Development as well as the first Chief Minister of Delhi at the age of 34 years, the second-youngest Chief Minister in India in 1952–55.He was elected to Lok Sabha from Delhi Sadar constituency in 1957, and from Outer Delhi in 1962 and 1967.He joined Janata Party later, and was elected to Lok Sabha again in 1977 from Outer Delhi.He died on 11th August 1993.

Second Chief Minister of Delhi – Gurmukh Nihal Singh (1955-1956)

Gurmukh Nihal Singh was the first Governor of Rajasthan and second Chief Minister of Delhi from 1955 to 1956 and was a Congress leader.He was the successor of Chaudhary Brahm Prakash and assumed office in 1955 just for one year, as after that States Reorganisation Act, 1956 was passed which made Delhi a Union Territory.No one was appointed the next CM of Delhi until legislative assembly elections in Delhi were held in 1993, when Union Territory of Delhi was formally declared as National Capital Territory of Delhi by the Sixty-ninth Amendment to the Indian constitution.

Chief Minister of Delhi – Madan Lal Khurana (1993-1996)

Madan Lal Khurana was the third chief minister of Delhi.He was an Indian politician also was Chief Minister of Delhi from 1993 to 1996.He also served as Governor of Rajasthan in 2004.He was the Union Minister of Parliamentary affairs and Tourism in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.He was a member of Rashtriya Swayansevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party. He was general secretary of the Allahabad Students Union in 1959 and became general secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in 1960.Khurana was the Jan Sangh’s general secretary from 1965 to 1967.He dominated first Municipal Corporation politics and then the Metropolitan Council where he was the Chief Whip, Executive Councillor and Leader of the Opposition by turns.He had suffered from a brain hemorrhage due to this he died on 27th October 2018.

Chief Minister of Delhi – Sahib Singh Verma (1996-1998)

Sahib Singh Verma was the fourth Chief Minister of Delhi.He was an Indian politician and the former senior vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party.He served as Chief Minister of Delhi (1996–1998) and was member of 13th Lok Sabha, Parliament of India (1999–2004).He served as the Union Labour Minister of India. He began his socio-political journey as a volunteer in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and later climbed the ranks in politics.He took an interest in social activities. He started two NGOs named Gramin Swabhiman and Rastriya Swabhiman.He had also served the World Jat Aryan Foundation, as its president.He died in a road accident in Rajasthan in 2007.

Chief Minister of Delhi – Sushma Swaraj (13 October 1998 to 3 Dec 1998)

Sushma Swaraj was the fifth Chief Minister of Delhi.He was an Indian politician and a Supreme Court lawyer. A senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party, Swaraj served as the Minister of External Affairs of India in the first Narendra Modi government (2014–2019).She was the second woman to hold the office, after Indira Gandhi.She was elected seven times as a Member of Parliament and three times as a Member of the Legislative Assembly. At the age of 25 in 1977, she became the youngest cabinet minister of Indian state of Haryana. She also served as 5th Chief Minister of Delhi for a short duration in 1998 and became the First female Chief Minister of Delhi.She was Education Minister of Haryana state in the Bharatiya Janata Party-Lok Dal coalition government from 1987 to 1990.She died on 6 August 2019.

Chief Minister of Delhi – Sheila Dikshit (1998-2013)

Sheila Dikshit was the Sixth Chief Minister of Delhi.He occasionally anglicised Dixit, was an Indian politician and stateswoman. The longest-serving Chief Minister of Delhi, as well as the longest-serving female chief minister of any Indian state, she served for a period of 15 years beginning in 1998.Dikshit led Congress party to three consecutive electoral victories in Delhi.She briefly served as the Governor of Kerala in 2014.Dikshit was later declared a chief ministerial candidate for the Indian National Congress in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, but withdrew her nomination.She was appointed as president of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee on 10 January 2019 and remained in office until her death in July later that year.She died on 20 July 2019, at the age of 81.

Arvind Kejriwal was the Seventh Chief Minister of Delhi.He is an Indian politician and a former bureaucrat who is the current and 7th Chief Minister of Delhi since February 2015. He was also the Chief Minister of Delhi from December 2013 to February 2014, stepping down after 49 days of assuming power.Currently, he is the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, which won the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections with a historic majority, obtaining 67 out of 70 assembly seats.In 2006, Kejriwal was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership in recognition of his involvement in the grassroots level movement Parivartan using right to information legislation in a campaign against corruption.Kejriwal had worked in the Indian Revenue Service as a Joint Commissioner of Income Tax in New Delhi.In 2012, he launched the Aam Aadmi Party, which won in the 2013 Delhi Legislative Assembly election.On 14 February 2015, he was sworn in as Chief Minister for a second term after his party’s victory in the Delhi Legislative Assembly election.He is Current Chief Minister of Delhi.
