There are 40 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India that are recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as of 2022. Latest Update about UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India:
- August 2022 – 106-year-old astronomical observatory at the Langat Singh College, Muzaffarpur in Bihar has been added to the UNESCO World heritage observatories list. This observatory is the first of its kind in the eastern part of India. The Astronomical Observatory in Muzaffarpur was established in 1916 to give detailed astronomical knowledge to students. However, the condition of planetariums, as well as the astronomical observatory, started deteriorating after 1970. Most of the installed machines have either been lost or become junk. No steps were taken for its restoration. Now, authorities are hoping to get funds from the state government for its restoration, after its inclusion in the UNESCO list of endangered heritage observatories.
- 27th July 2021 – Dholavira, Harappan City in the Rann of Kutchh, becomes India’s 40th UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- 25th July 2021 – UNESCO has inscribed the Rudreswara Temple (Ramappa Temple) at Palampet, Warangal, Telangana on the List of World Heritage Sites.
